A young boy, Mr. Eligius Ranee comes from Nongtraw, a distant village in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. His father is a farmer, terminally ill and can no longer work in the field. “Our financial condition is so bad that we, six-member, can’t afford to have three square meals a day,” says Eligius, recalling his childhood with a great sigh. He adds, “Having non-veg was a luxury.” Although passing through this acute situation he had a strong desire to study further but the condition at home did not allow it. After passing class VIII, as the road ahead seemed blurry, he decided to drop out of school to work to support his three little siblings and fund his studies. His strong desire to work and relief the burden of his parents drove him to get trained at Don Bosco Tech at any cost. This he came to know from one of his friends who is an alumnus of Mawjrong center, told him about the short term training and placement. His friend not only gave the good news but also narrated his transformation journey. Hearing him, Mr. Ranee, along with one of his friends went down to Mawjrong center, seeking advice and guidance from the trainers.

After a discussion with the trainers and consulting with the counselor, he opted for training in Unarmed Security Guard. Soon, he enrolled for it with a clarity of thought. During the training, he was a keen learner. This was visible from the way he wanted to build a strong foundation for himself from day one through sincere involvement, interaction, and seeking lots of clarification during theory and practical sessions. He used to participate in different activities in and out of the class. This nature was admired by his trainers.

Mr. Ranee wanted a job in hand from the very beginning. He waited patiently. Finally, the day came when he grabbed the very first job that was offered to him. He appeared and fared well in the interview with Rapid Action Security and was placed as a Security Guard at North Eastern Council Secretariat, Shillong, East Khasi Hills with an initial salary of Rs. 8,200/- in hand with accommodation. After getting the job, his joy knew no bounds.

Being the eldest son of the family, he dawned as hope amid the hopeless situation of the family. His lion’s share of his salary goes for his father’s treatment, the rest for his siblings. “I am happy to get a job. Above all, I am happy because I can be an asset to the family. I feel proud that my father is stable and health condition is becoming better day by day because of my help and support,” tells Mr. Ronee.

Mr. Ronee is greatly indebted to Don Bosco Tech and all the trainers who accompanied him towards achieving his goal in this dreary family’s condition. Otherwise, he would be nowhere today. He says that he will recommend more youth like him to join Don Bosco Tech, skill themselves and stand on their own feet.
