“I am grateful to Don Bosco Tech, Accenture and RFI Rainbow Home for giving me the opportunity to change my life. Because of the training, I have gained confidence and lost all my fears”. Puttala Anjali stated.
When we talk about electricians, the first image that pops into our mind is of a male electrician. That's because we have mostly seen men in this profession and doing these things. However, a 21-year-old orphan name Puttala Anjali's inspiring journey of becoming a female electrician is gracefully shattering such stereotypes. This is also a story that is a part of this year’s International Women’s Day theme- Break The Bias which focuses on women challenging traditional ways of thinking. Don Bosco Tech played a vital role in giving her a lifetime career. She is now a Mechanical Assembly Operator at Schneider Electric Pvt. Ltd in Telangana.
Let us look back at her journey…The pain that Anjali has suffered is too overwhelming to be contained in a young heart. Like many orphans at RFI Rainbow Home, Anjali was just a child when she arrived at the children’s institute in Falknama, Hyderabad. RFI Rainbow Home decided to take her under its wings, gave her a new home, a new family and hope for a better future. It moulded and helped her to complete her 10th class and further led her to join the skills training at Don Bosco Tech Gagillapuram.
Since she doesn’t have parents or any relatives, she became so stubborn in her life. But she has a strong desire and aims to stand by herself, and not to depend on others. During registration, she did not opt for any of the other courses being offered because she had set her heart and mind to the Electrician course. Naturally then, the interest inventory procedure gave the same results. She was meant to pursue the electrician course! She choose to join the male-dominated line of work and enrolled in the Electrician Domestic Solutions course which was funded by Accenture.
During the training, her life changed completely. She gained not only knowledge about the electrical course but also developed life skills. Once upon a time, she was very scared of the electrical current but now with the intelligent teaching and guidance of her electrical trainer Mr M.Gangadhar, she lost that fear & gained knowledge about electrical house wiring. She learned computer and spoken English which was a boost to her career. Today she understands the English language and is able to respond back.
On successful completion of the training, her enthusiasm and hard work earned her a job as a Mechanical Assembly Operator at Schneider Electric Pvt. Ltd in Telangana with a monthly salary of INR 11950. She is very happy to get this job and felt the satisfaction to reach her goal. She is very grateful to Don Bosco Tech, Rev. Fr. Sudhakar, Rev. Fr. Shrath the centre in – charge of Don Bosco Tech Gagillapuram who has always guided her. She expressed her gratitude towards her trainer Mr M Gangadhar and the entire Don Bosco Tech staff.
She encourages other women never to let society decide what they should do and could do. Women like Anjali inspire many more women. The way she travelled her path to success, doing something unconventional and breaking stereotypes, has won many hearts. Financial independence is an empowering feeling, and with more and more women becoming financially independent, the world will see a better future.
We wish Anjali the very best in future.
