Twenty-three-year-old Subi failed to complete her MBA program due to financial hardship in her family. Her mother worked hard as a saleswoman in a small retail store to support the family and her father who is a heart patient. To support her mother, Subi had to find out ways for her to earn some money. With the intervention of Don Bosco Tech, her life was transformed drastically. Don Bosco Tech Society provides excellent services & empowers the needy deprived underprivileged youth. It is also a gateway to a respectable job & career. The selling skills she gained from the training led Subi to migrate to the United Arab Emirates and is now working as a Cashier in an English Bakery in Jumeirah village circle, with a salary of 2000 AED (INR 40000).
Let us go back in time to know more about her story. Subi A.S, daughter of Mr Sunil V and Mrs Animol G is from Paravoor in Kollam district of Kerala state. She completed her graduation from S N Collage for Women’s Kollam in 2018. Following that, she enrolled in an MBA program at Kollam. She failed to finish it due to financial hardship in her family. Her family consists of five members. She is the oldest of three children. Her mother lost her job during the pandemic, and it was extremely difficult to run the family without an income. With no specific expertise and knowledge, Subi had a difficult time finding a job. At that time she struggled a lot in order for the family to be able to meet its basic needs, she sought to earn money.
While in search of jobs, Subi came to know about Don Bosco Tech Society through the mobilization activities conducted by the trainers in her village area. She expressed her delight in discovering that Don Bosco Tech offers free online training to youths to acquire the required knowledge and practical skills to help them secure better careers. Don Bosco Tech is conducting 3- months training programs in partnership with Accenture, a leading global professional company, to help the youth acquire the required livelihood and soft skills.
After the inquiry, she enrolled in the Retail Sales Associate course at Don Bosco Tech Punalur. She was happy to join this course during the pandemic. During the training period, she learned to interact and communicate with people. She tried her best to improve her skills. After completing the training, she attended an interview and got a job in Kiran Motors LTD as a Sales Executive at Kollam with a salary of INR 10500. Thus she could manage the daily expenses of her family. This training program helped her learn skills to handle different customers confidently and how to operate a computer and communicate effectively. She developed the right attitude to face life with hard work.
One month later, Don Bosco offered her another job abroad. She got selected as a Cashier in an English Bakery in Jumeirah village circle, UAE, with a salary of 2000 AED (INR 40000). Currently, she is pleased with her job. Because of this salary, her family members are very content, and her life is much better.
At her success, she is overjoyed, saying, “I want you to know that if you are out there and you are being hard on yourself right now for something that has happened. It’s normal. That is what is going to happen to you in life. No one gets through unscathed. We are all going to have a few scratches on us. Please be kind to yourselves and stand up for yourself.”
