On 1 November 2024, the student and staff community of Don Bosco Tech Society, Kollam, united to celebrate Kerala Piravi with vibrant energy and heartfelt pride. Observed annually to mark the formation of the state of Kerala in 1956 through the unification of Malayalam-speaking regions, Kerala Piravi is more than a cultural remembrance—it is an opportunity to honour the shared linguistic and historical identity that binds the people of Kerala.

The programme opened with an energetic group song by students of the IT Customer Care Executive stream, led by Ms Renjitha R and her team. The spirited performance set a tone of unity and celebration, sparking a sense of belonging among attendees. The momentum continued with a soulful duet by Mr Muhammed Shan S of the Cloud Application stream and Ms Angel A of the IT Customer Care Executive stream. Their collaborative performance beautifully blended individual talent with cross-departmental camaraderie, showcasing the institution’s commitment to fostering collaboration across disciplines.

Adding a graceful artistic touch, Ms Rithu Renjith from the Cloud Application stream presented a classical dance performance. Her elegant movements not only captivated the audience but also highlighted the deep-rooted artistic traditions that Kerala is celebrated for, bridging the past with the present.

The cultural significance of Kerala Piravi was brought into thoughtful focus through a perceptive speech by Ms Priya Kumpawat, a student of the Cloud Application Developer programme. She traced the journey of Kerala’s birth, explored its language-based reorganisation and emphasized how the state’s cultural identity has evolved over time—encouraging the youth to take pride in their heritage. This message was reinforced by an inspiring address from Ms Meenakshi R. Vinod, who called upon students and educators alike to safeguard their mother tongue and traditions as part of Kerala’s living legacy.

An engaging highlight of the celebration was the “Malayali Manka & Mankan” ramp walk, a creative, student-led event that merged fashion, identity and social expression. Participants from the IT Customer Care Executive stream represented the traditional Malayali Manka, while their counterparts in the Cloud Application stream portrayed Mankan. With themed attire and thoughtful one-liners, the segment brought Kerala’s cultural icons to life in a lively, modern context, drawing enthusiastic participation from the entire campus.

The day’s programme concluded with an insightful message and vote of thanks by Centre Coordinator Mr Tinu Ruben. He expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort of students, staff and trainees in making the event a success. Emphasizing Don Bosco Tech Society’s holistic approach to education, he encouraged everyone to carry the spirit of Kerala Piravi into their daily lives—balancing technical education with an enduring commitment to culture, heritage and community values.

This Kerala Piravi celebration at Don Bosco Tech Society, Kollam, was not just an event, but an experience—honouring history, inspiring unity and nurturing pride in the rich legacy of Kerala, truly reflecting the rhythm and soul of the land.
