Genesis

It is a brainchild of Archbishop A. A. S Durai Raj SVD and then provincial of SVD - INC Province. Fr Albinus Kujur SVD was appointed as the first director of SAMMAN, who started mobilizing the rag pickers and organized them to collect wastes from door to door in one of the apartment in Saket Nagar Bhopal. Since door-to-door was successful in one apartment, it gradually extended to whole of Bhopal city. Considering the systematic functioning of door-to-door collection the Bhopal Municipality Corporation adopted this concept and continuing until today. After six years of his dedicated service, Fr Florence Minz SVD took over and functioned as a director for two years. With Fr Simon James SVD, the present director for the past Nine years, SAMMAN has taken its new shape, with number of activities for women, youth and children with 22 full time staff members and 15-part time staff members.
