World International Non - Plastic Day
03 Jul 2021
On July 3rd, 2024, the world commemorated International Plastic Bag Free Day, a global initiative aimed at advocating for the reduction of plastic bag usage in favor of more sustainable alternatives such as paper or cloth bags. This significant day serves as a reminder of the pressing need to address the detrimental impacts of plastic pollution on our environment.
Highlighting the urgency of this issue, recent data reveals staggering statistics regarding plastic waste generation. In India alone, a staggering 25,940 tonnes of plastic waste are produced daily, as disclosed by Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar, during a session in the Lok Sabha in November 2019. Moreover, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic have exacerbated pollution levels, particularly from disposable items like plastic face masks, hand sanitizer bottles, and syringes.
In light of these concerns, Don Bosco Tech Poonch took proactive steps to observe World International Day with a series of impactful activities. The dedicated staff organized informative sessions, engaging candidates to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic bags on both the environment and living organisms. Through these efforts, participants gained valuable insights into the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices and reducing reliance on single-use plastics for the betterment of our planet.
