Jasim Shekhra, a young boy who bore a pleasing physique. But he was no less than the boys of his age who never mind fighting, bunking classes, and so on. Keeping aside these traits he could realize that there is a dire need to earn to support a five-member family financially. Mr. Anwarul (Jasim’s father) was the sole earning member of the family as the mother remained a housewife. He had no choice but to cling on to the underpaid job in the shop. Treading through tough times Jasim started working as a daily wager soon after matriculation, keeping aside books.

But then, it was never too late when he heard about Don Bosco Tech Society’s free skilling and placement program through the mobilization team of Purnea, Bihar center. Soon he got enrolled himself, after the initial counseling, for the Food & Beverages Service Steward job role. In life, for some, choose a career path following the inner voice. For others, had to adapt to a given situation. Likewise, for Jasim, this trade was completely new. Hence, initially, he was not serious about the training program. But the focus to uplift the family financially helped him keep his feet on the ground. During the training, he realized that he had to pinpoint and to work on his personality. But yes, he was able to emerge a charming person with the additional classes on Communicative English, Computer & Life Skills. Gradually he calmed down and became orderly. This would not have been possible had he not realized his strengths and weaknesses and work towards it.

On successful completion of training in Food & Beverage Service Steward, he was selected for a much sought after company, The Barbeque Nation, based in Chennai through a campus selection. The employer was impressed with Jasim, the presence of mind he bore, and the practical know-how. Soon after the interview he joined the company and is earning Rs.11,000/- a month with free food and accommodation. He is continuing his studies through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) besides helping his siblings complete their studies. Because of him, the family’s financial condition has improved. He is happy with his job. On the other hand, the family is happy.

Jasim said, “As I look back, I need to thank so many people for their support and encouragement. Above all Don Bosco Tech Society for the opportunity and the Barbeque Nation for the job offer. Today I vouch to keep learning until I master the trade. There is no looking back until someday I acquire a prestigious position in the Barbeque Nation Restaurant. I do have a dream to uplift my family, bring out of poverty someday. I want to tell the less preveleged youth of our nation that there is a ray of hope in Don Bosco Tech. Please join and fulfill your dreams.”
