Showing concern to our Environment, Don Bosco Tech (Bhadrak, Odisha) successfully carried out afforestation on December 21, 2019, in the campus. Trainees, as well as trainers, along with local social workers, took active part in this programme.

While the morning assembly was on, the participants were already addressed about the need for and its conservation. “Trees are the foremost source of oxygen in. They help to reduce the level of Carbon dioxide,” said  Mr. Umesh Mahapatra (Trainer, Support Domain). “As we all know that the whole world is experiencing the problem of global warming and to recover from such problems planting trees has become the foremost important,” he said by showing the dark side of the environment.

The team selected the underutilized land of the campus to plant saplings in a well-organized manner. This step was taken in align with the ‘Go Clean Go Green’ initiative. As it is our responsibility to contribute a bit in keeping our surroundings clean and liveable, the event was taken with all its seriousness. The students planted saplings, and fenced them and watered the plants. This programme garnered enough appreciation by the local people and social workers. The programme was an eye-opener for the neighbours. During the programme, the students planted the saplings of Mango, Teak (Sagwan) and other species of plants on the campus.

Mr Umesh, in the midst of his explanation about the need of afforestation, said, “Tree plantation is the need of the hour to save the endangered spices and polluted environment if we have to live a healthy life.” “Trees are valuable gifts of nature. The lives of men and other animals and insects are inconceivable without the existence of trees in the world. Trees give us shade, medicine, food, fruits, furniture, fuel, etc. It keeps the weather cool and causes rainfall too,” he added.

Mr. Chintamani Nath (Centre Head) took the responsibility to take care further, the planted plants with our support. Refreshments were served to the participants after the drive. This will remain as a lifetime memory for all. The programme ended with a pledge to conserve our environment by ‘each one plant one tree a month.’
