‘Safety Measures’ has been the topmost priority for our trainees, especially for the technical domains. In a bid to add knowledge to their learning a guest lecture for the Assistant Electrician domain was organized at Don Bosco Tech Society (Banswara) on February 7, 2020. Mr. Gunjan Yadav (Trainer, Govt. ITI College, Banswara) was the invited resource person for the day. Captivate the trainees by his experience and expertise in the field of electrical.

Mr. Yadav started to discuss with the trainees on safety measures in domestic as well as industrial wiring. Reasons for the accident and how it could have been avoided were also shared. “Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)” he mentioned, as the determined guidelines for safety. He added, “Failing to abide by the SOPs, there can be massive damage to loss of humans lives, animals, properties, while wiring.”

‘Electrical Safety,’ as explained by Mr. Yadav is ‘a system of organizational measures and technical means to prevent harmful and dangerous effects on workers from the electric current are; electromagnetic field and static electricity.’

‘The basis of electrical safety,’ he said is ‘not to use outlets or cords that have exposed wiring or portable cord-and-plug connected power tools if the guards are removed or block access to panels and circuit breakers or fuse boxes and touch a person or electrical apparatus in the event of an electrical incident.’

Home wiring, as a vital role of an electrician, Mr. Yadav mentioned just five electrical safety tips, here are the precaution measures; 
1.    Replace or repair damaged power cords. Exposed wiring is dangerous, that cannot go overlooked.
2.    Don't overload your outlets.
3.    Avoid extension cords as much as possible.
4.    Keep electrical equipment or outlets away from water.
5.    Protect small children from hazards.

Having briefed the trainees on measures of electric hazards, Mr. Yadav touched upon do’s and don’ts of the first AID to be given to an electrocuted person. “Cover the victim in a blanket and stay with them until the arrival of help. Break the current. Call for emergency assistance.” What one must avoid is ‘to endanger oneself by touching the victim or to touch the source of electricity,’ added the resource person.

Mr. Lokesh Yadav (Trainer, Sales Associate) was the organizer of the event concluded the session by thanking the resource person on behalf of the trainees for such brilliant inputs. He never beat about the bush, but to the point, captured the undivided attention of the trainees for about two hours. The trainees too sat and listened with a pin-drop silent.
