05 Jun 2021
On June 5, 2021, amidst the virtual realm of Google Meet, a beacon of environmental consciousness illuminated the screens of eager learners at Don Bosco Tech - Sivakasi. Dr. B. DevaRaja, a distinguished figure from the Faculty of Agriculture Department at The Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, Dindigul, graced the occasion as the guest lecturer, igniting a fervent discussion on the urgent need for environmental preservation.
Mrs. Karmel, the Trainer of Domestic CRM Non-Voice trainees, set the stage with a warm welcome, ushering in an atmosphere of anticipation for the enlightening discourse that was about to unfold.
Dr. DevaRaja's impassioned address resonated deeply as he delved into the intricacies of maintaining a balanced ecosystem and fostering sustainable development. He painted a vivid picture of the dire consequences of human negligence, lamenting how terms like these have become relics confined to the pages of history.
Drawing from his wealth of knowledge, Dr. DevaRaja shed light on the symbiotic relationship between rivers in South India and the indigenous Shola vegetation, emphasizing the critical importance of forest conservation. With poignant anecdotes, he recounted the tragic disruption of the delicate harmony between flora and fauna, wrought by the relentless march of human progress.
The audience was captivated as Dr. DevaRaja illuminated the historical landscape, tracing the scars left by colonial invasions and the subsequent desecration of once pristine ecosystems, notably the Western Ghats. Yet, amidst the shadows of environmental degradation, he offered glimmers of hope, citing proactive measures undertaken by the Indian government to reverse the tide of destruction.
In a thought-provoking conclusion, Dr. DevaRaja urged restraint, advocating for a profound shift in our approach towards nature – a call to action rooted in doing less, allowing existing forest covers to thrive undisturbed.
As the virtual gathering drew to a close, Mr. Oscar Romairo, Trainer-Sales Associate, expressed gratitude on behalf of the attendees, echoing the collective sentiment of appreciation for the enlightening discourse. The participants, fueled by newfound knowledge and inspired by Dr. DevaRaja's impassioned plea, departed with a renewed commitment to championing environmental stewardship in their lives and communities.
