A visit to Bajengdoba PHC

On January 23, 2020, the trainees of General Duty Assistant (GDA), Mendal center under the SHCDM project visited Bajongdoba PHC which was a replication of their classroom learning. The whole motive behind visiting the venue was to have a close look at the various functioning department, resources, etc. of medical institutions, to understand the job role and responsibilities of the trainees at their workplace. A total of 14 trainees participated and visited the PHC which was assisted by the Domain Trainer Ms. Ishana K Marak.
The trainees and Ms. Ishana K Marak on reaching the PHC were received by the medical officer Dr. Okkai R Sangma and his staff members. Dr. Okkai interacted and briefed the students on the importance of health care and its principles i.e. how to prevent the disease from spreading and its care. It was followed by an institution tour where the students observed the different activities taking place in each department; interdepartmental process and functions, in-patience service and out patience service, record maintaining, pharmacy, laboratory, and the examining room of the PHC which was assisted by the Senior Nurse. The trainees also observed the tools and other equipment of the organization that is used for medical purposes.
The outcome of the visit:
1. Students learned about the service of the OPD (Outpatient Department) and IPD (Inpatient Department) and its differences.
2. Doctors’ Chamber: The student learned about it and their importance.
3. The students also learned on the importance of patient care and services and its related types of equipment required for treatments
4. Students learned about the different departments of the PHC and its functions.
5. The Trainees also observed and learned about the various instrument and resources available in the organization.
6. They also learned and observed the relations that the doctors and nurses maintain with their patients.
As Ms. Marak interacted with the staff of the PHC thanked the Medical Officer and the staff for permitting the trainees to learn from their institution and also for sparing their valuable time to orient and take them around in their institutions.
