Sushma belongs to a maha dalit family from Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. Her family consists of her parents, three sisters and a brother. Her family does not have steady financial income owing to which on some day they had to go for only one time meal in a day. Her father Ganesh Ram is a farmer who could earn only a very meagre income to meet the both ends. However, Sushma never lost hope and worked hard in her study and manage her academic materials by borrowing money, note-books, pens, etc from her neighbours and friends. After matriculation, she could not continue her further studies.

Once she met one of her friends who were working in a sewing centre. She inquired her friend about the training at the place of the centre. Fortunately, she also met Sr. Pushpa, a local nurse from her native place who informed her about Asha Deep and its purpose. When she reached Asha Deep, she could feel the hope of her future coming alive again.

After the inventory test and counselling, she finally enrolled herself in Nursing Assistant domain under Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) project. Under this project, Don Bosco Tech is imparting 3-month skill training to vulnerable and marginalized youth from socially excluded groups. As an individual, she is very simple and hard working. She cultivated a feeling in her heart that she would stand on her feet to support her family.

After three months intensive training, she finally secured a job at Jyoti Bhawan Health centre, Kanti. At present her salary is Rs.4000 per month with both accommodation and food. She is enjoying her duty and hopes to become a good nurse as well as help the poor and the needy.

She says, “After completing my training I went home and gathered all unemployed youth in my village to  spread the message about Don Bosco Tech and Asha Deep. It was really convincing for all of them because the live case study was standing in front of them to share transformation story. Now may youngsters from my village enrolled in the skill training program at Asha Deep.  I am grateful to Fathers, Brothers, and the Co-Workers for helping me to grow in my life.”
