Thakurmunda is a block headquarter of Mayurbhanj district, which is situated on the border of Mayurbhaj and Keonjhar district of Odisha. It is one of the remote block of Odisha predominately the inhabitants are forest dwellers and tribal people. There are no good educational institute and vocational training institute in this block. Many girls are getting marry at the early due to lack of proper employment scope and youths are migrating to cities and urban areas for the seeking of jobs. Even the youngsters are joining in extremism activity as it is forest areas. So keeping all the worse situation in the mind Don Bosco Tech planned to open one centre in this locality. With the help of local partner RRDO (Regional Rural Development Organization) Don Bosco Tech opened one centre at Thakurmunda town. The centre came to start in the month of June 2016. The acceptability of Don Bosco Tech has been increased among the community of Thakurmunda and Karanjia block. The training outreach has been expanded to many blocks of Mayurbhanj district.

Short term vocational training programs are of three months' duration, in which the students are given technical inputs prepared in consultation with industry experts and professionals. The course includes on-the-job training, assignments and field visits. Valuable life skills are also integrated into the curriculum through an interactive teaching process.
