On 17th March 2021, Mr. Raldy Tron, hospitality trainer of Maligaon centre organized a guest lecture for the housekeeping students of Maligaon Centre. Mrs. Shabnam Yasmin, IT trainer of Don Bosco Technical School, Maligaon was the resource person for the day. She has a rich work experience in the hotel industry for over five years.

Mrs. Shabnam began the lecture by stating that housekeeping is an operational department in a hotel, responsible for cleanliness, maintenance, and aesthetic upkeep of rooms, public area, back area, and surroundings. A hotel survives on the sale of rooms, food, beverages, and other minor services such as the laundry service, and health club spa. The sales of rooms constitute a minimum of 50 percent of these sales. Thus, a major part of the hotel’s margin of profits comes from room sales. Rooms that were serviced can be sold over and over again.

She continued by saying that the effort of a housekeeping department makes in giving a guest a desirable room has a direct bearing on the guest’s experience in a hotel. Guestrooms are the heart of the hotel. The housekeeping department not only prepares a clean guestroom on a timely basis for arriving guests but also cleans and maintains everything in the hotel so that the property is as fresh and attractive as the day it opens for business. Housekeeping, thus, is the main department that contributes in a big way to the overall reputation of a property. Mrs. Shabnam encourages the students to experience their life in the hotel industry. She says that the students will really enjoy working.
The session was very informative and beneficial for the students and it ended with a thunderous clap.
