On March 13, 2024, a group of over 30 students pursuing Master of Social Work (MSW) from Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri, in Tamil Nadu visited the National Office of Don Bosco Tech Society to gain valuable insights into the mission and activities of Don Bosco Tech Society. The group was visiting multiple organisations to gain knowledge and exposure to social work practice through such organisations.
Welcoming the students, Fr. George Mathew, Executive Director of Don Bosco Tech Society, provided a comprehensive overview of the organization's mission, social initiatives, and notable achievements. Through his engaging presentation, the students gained valuable insights into the organization's efforts in skill development and employment generation. The presentation and the interaction provided insights into the National Skill Policy and how it is being implemented and how the young people can benefit from this.
These discussions shed light on the significance of skilling initiatives in addressing socio-economic challenges and empowering marginalized communities. By learning about Don Bosco Tech Society's role in providing vocational training and creating employment opportunities for the youth, the students grasped the importance of practical interventions in uplifting the underprivileged. During the visit, the students delved into discussions surrounding government policies related to skill development and employability.
The visit proved to be an enriching experience for the students as they gained invaluable insights into the practical aspects of social work and the impactful role played by organizations like Don Bosco Tech Society in fostering positive change within society by providing skilling and employability. This also helped to reflect on possible career pathways for social worker qualified personnel in the skill training scenario.
