Don Bosco Tech Society, being a member of Don Bosco Green Alliance initiated green practices in the National Office in Delhi. As a first step, a green team was formed consisting of five volunteers. The team was given the mandate to educate, initiate and monitor various green initiatives at the organizational level. Since many of the employees were not much aware of climate change, environment-related issues, and environment conservation the green team started a practice of sharing short messages and emailers on environment-related matters, Don Bosco Tech Societies commitments, and best practices.

In connection with this, the green team conducted an activity in the month of October 2019 before the Diwali festival to share ideas and best practices on environment conservation and preservation. The objective was to make the employee think, read and share on environmental conservation and preservations at the individual level. All the employees in the head office were asked to share their ideas or best practices which they are already doing or planning to conduct through a google form. The time period given for this was one week i.e. from 16th October to 23rd October 2019.

The green team could see good participation and it was found from the responses that many employees were aware of environmental issues and are practicing certain environment-friendly activities at individual levels. Some of the responses even though some of them seem to bring very minimal impact at individual levels, such practices when practiced by everyone can bring in changes. The following are some of the responses:

“Committed for 'ZERO' printing of paper and have not printed a single page last two months.”

“I avoid plastic bags whenever I purchase goods.”

“I turn off the engine of my car while in the Red light.”

“Wastewater from RO reused for cleaning and watering plants.”

The green team selected three employees on the basis of the number of ideas shared, originality, practicing it or decided to practice individually and usage of examples. They will be awarded a certificate of appreciation and a green gift.
