Genesis

The Salesian presence in Hospet started in 1987. The Vocational Educational Program was begun in 1989. Almost simultaneously the Centre for Social Action began as a way of involving in the welfare of the people of the neighborhood. In 1998 the Vocational Training Program was accredited by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and called Don Bosco Professional Academy (DBPA). These educational programmes and research projects were meant exclusively for the uplift and qualification of illiterate people and school dropouts. Accommodation is also available for the trainees. The Centre collaborates with the Government and other like-minded groups and individuals to make people agents of their own development and social transformation

Short term vocational training programs are of three months' duration, in which the students are given technical inputs prepared in consultation with industry experts and professionals. The course includes on-the-job training, assignments and field visits. Valuable life skills are also integrated into the curriculum through an interactive teaching process.
