Pre-Independence Day Celebration
14 Aug 2024
On August 14th, 2024, the campus buzzed with energy and excitement as students gathered for a Pre-Independence Day celebration that would leave a lasting impression. Marking the 78th anniversary of India's independence, the event kicked off at 1 PM, with students randomly grouped into teams of five through a lively chit-picking process. Armed with chart papers and their vivid imaginations, each group was tasked with creating a drawing that captured the essence of Independence Day.
The atmosphere was electric as students dived into the activity, their minds brimming with ideas and their hands busy bringing those ideas to life. What unfolded was a powerful display of creativity and collaboration, as each group tackled a unique aspect of India's journey to freedom and its legacy.
One group took on the theme of women's evolution in Indian society, contrasting the struggles faced by women before independence with the progress and empowerment they enjoy today. Their artwork poignantly highlighted the journey from a time of limited rights to an era where women are key players in every sphere of life.
Another group traced India's path to independence, illustrating pivotal moments like the 1857 uprising, the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885, and the hard-earned victory of 1947. They contrasted these historic events with an inspiring vision of a future India, where unity in diversity is the nation's strength.
A third group focused on the sacrifices that paved the way for freedom, using the powerful image of hands painted in the colors of the national flag to symbolize the collective struggle and perseverance that won India its independence. Their artwork was a tribute to the countless individuals whose sacrifices ensured the country's freedom.
The final group paid homage to the Indian army, highlighting the unwavering dedication of the soldiers who safeguard the nation's security. Their depiction of the army served as a reminder of the ongoing commitment required to maintain the hard-won freedom.
The event concluded with a group photo, where students posed with Fr. Rector, their faces reflecting the pride and unity that had defined the day. This celebration not only honored the spirit of Independence Day but also ignited a deeper understanding of India's history and the values that continue to shape its future. It was a day of learning, reflection, and above all, a celebration of the freedom that binds us all.
