RMG – Global Collaboration: Charting the Future of Salesian Vocational Training Centres
18 Dec 2025
Reinforcing its pivotal role in shaping the future of Salesian vocational education, Don Bosco Tech actively participated in a global online meeting convened by the Youth Ministry Department of the Salesian Congregation on 18 December 2025. The meeting brought together Don Bosco Tech Regional Directors from India, Africa, Europe, and the ASEAN region, underscoring Don Bosco Tech’s growing contribution to international collaboration in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The virtual gathering served as a platform to review regional progress, address emerging challenges, and collectively envision the future of Salesian Vocational Training Centres (VTCs)—a core mission area where Don Bosco Tech continues to play a leading role in empowering disadvantaged youth through skill-based education and employability pathways.
Opening the session, Fr. Rafael Bejarano, General Councillor for Youth Ministry, highlighted the transformative impact of Salesian VTCs worldwide. He reaffirmed the congregation’s commitment to reaching young people at the margins, enabling their holistic development, and preparing them for dignified and sustainable livelihoods—an approach that strongly resonates with the work and vision of Don Bosco Tech across regions.
A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a proposed Visioning Framework for Salesian Vocational Training Centres, introduced by Mr. Piero Fabris and Fr. Maximus Okoro, SDB. The framework proposes a structured and collaborative approach to reviewing existing models, strengthening governance, and defining future priorities. Participants, including Don Bosco Tech leaders, welcomed the proposal as a timely and strategic step towards ensuring greater alignment, quality, and impact across Salesian vocational initiatives globally.
The visioning process seeks to ensure that VTCs remain dynamic, future-ready, and deeply rooted in the charism of Don Bosco, while responding effectively to evolving labour market demands and youth aspirations. Enhanced cross-regional coordination, knowledge-sharing, and collective planning—areas where Don Bosco Tech has consistently demonstrated leadership—were identified as key strengths of the proposed approach.
This global dialogue marks an important milestone in renewing the Salesian Congregation’s long-term commitment to TVET, with Don Bosco Tech continuing to serve as a vital catalyst in translating vision into action on the ground. To further consolidate shared learnings and develop practical strategies, an in-person international meeting has been scheduled for 16–20 March 2026 in Rome, bringing together diverse regional experiences to shape a common roadmap for the future of Salesian vocational and technical education worldwide.
