On the 28th of June 2024, 28 enthusiastic housekeeping trainees from Don Bosco Tech Society, Nirmali Society of Jesus Christ Mawkasiang Center embarked on an enlightening industrial training program at Tanicia’s Resort. This immersive visit aimed to equip the trainees with firsthand experience of the intricacies and high standards of housekeeping services in a resort setting.
Nestled in the tranquil outskirts of Umsawli, approximately 20 kilometers from the city, Tanicia’s Resort is a haven of serenity surrounded by lush green hills, offering a pleasant climate and moderate temperatures. Managed by Jerimi Cornielle Kharphanbuh, with Carmelo Synrem as the current manager and supported by a dedicated staff, the resort boasts five elegantly designed rooms—two standard, two deluxe, and one executive. Guests have the option of queen-size, king-size, or single beds. The resort also features a soundproof banquet hall accommodating 150-200 guests, a medium-sized swimming pool, and ample parking space.
During their visit, the trainees delved deep into the practical aspects of Hotel Housekeeping and Food and Beverage Service departments. They witnessed and learned the meticulous processes involved in maintaining the impeccable cleanliness of the resort. The housekeeping team demonstrated the thorough procedures required to ensure every room and public area, including corridors, dining floors, and pathways, met the highest standards of cleanliness.
Key takeaways for the trainees included the proper bed arrangement techniques—positioning the mattress perfectly, folding the bed sheet and bed cover appropriately, and ensuring pillows are neatly arranged. They learned the importance of changing bed sheets, covers, and pillowcases if found dirty or odorous.
Before and after room cleaning, the trainees were taught to open curtains and windows, use white linens, thoroughly clean bathrooms, and replenish essentials like towels, soap, and toiletries. They also learned to tidy reading tables, refill coffee, sugar, and mineral water supplies, and ensure all amenities were in place. A comprehensive checklist guided them to arrange big towels near the bed, place doormats, and handle lost and found items appropriately. The final touch was applying room freshener to maintain a pleasant ambiance.
In addition to room cleaning, the trainees gained valuable skills in operating washing machines, mixing washing chemicals, and pool maintenance—skills essential for any proficient housekeeper in the hospitality industry.
In the Food and Beverage Service department, Ms. Emily Shylla, the resort’s receptionist, provided insightful training on guest interaction, menu presentation, and table arrangement. She emphasized the elegance and precision required in serving—beginning with the child, then the lady, followed by the man. The trainees learned the art of handling plates correctly, ensuring the hand is always on the bottom of the plate, serving with the right hand, and clearing from the left side.
They also explored the delicate process of serving and clearing water glasses, holding the tray from the bottom with one hand, and serving with the right hand. Detailed lessons on taking beverage orders, serving from the right side, and clearing from the left side were imparted, along with understanding the different sizes of plates for starters and main courses.
This industrial visit to Tanicia’s Resort was a treasure trove of practical knowledge and hands-on experience. It provided the trainees with invaluable insights and equipped them with essential skills for a successful career in the hospitality industry. The comprehensive exposure to real-world scenarios made this an unforgettable and impactful learning journey for all attendees.
