On 13 July 2024, the Nirmali Society of Christ Jesus in Mawkasiang hosted an enlightening guest lecture delivered by Miss Genesis Najiar, a seasoned Domain Trainer from Don Bosco Tech Society. With over six and a half years of experience, Miss Najiar, alongside her colleagues Miss Dawiat Gweneth Rynjah and Miss Larimonsngewbha Wanniang, provided an engaging and informative session that began at 10 am.
Miss Najiar opened the lecture by exploring the essential equipment needed for the housekeeping department, categorizing them into manual and mechanical types. She introduced the nine key cleaning agents, denoted as R1 through R9, explaining that "R" stands for Room Care. She detailed the usage of both liquid and non-liquid solutions, emphasizing the importance of wearing gloves for safety and using color-coded cloths to avoid cross-contamination.
The session then transitioned to practical skills, where Miss Najiar demonstrated the proper techniques for cleaning various surfaces including floors, wood, and carpets. She illustrated the correct method for mixing cleaning solutions, applying them with a wet mop, and finishing with a dry mop to ensure a spotless floor.
Participants were shown how to use squeegees for mirror cleaning and were guided through the use of a Wringer trolley for effective mopping. The practical session continued with a hands-on demonstration of bed-making, which involved seven meticulous steps: cleaning the mattress, applying a button sheet with a hospital fold, layering the top sheet, adding a duvet, positioning pillows, placing a bed runner, and finishing with a polished touch.
Miss Najiar also showcased creative towel decoration techniques, forming shapes like swans and hearts, and highlighted the importance of ironing towels to achieve a neat appearance. The bathroom cleaning segment, focusing on the Vanity counter, was equally instructive, covering the steps to effectively clean the toilet by applying and letting the cleaning solution sit before scrubbing.
Concluding the session, Miss Najiar offered valuable advice and encouragement for the trainees. She emphasized the importance of confidence, honesty, and self-trust, urging them to feel assured in their abilities and to be prepared for opportunities abroad.
The event concluded with a group photo and a shared lunch, leaving participants with newfound knowledge, practical skills, and a deeper understanding of the housekeeping profession.
