Field trips often provide a unique opportunity for experiential learning, and the visit organized by Don Bosco Tech Lingarajapuram (DB BEST Academy) to Decathlon on Friday, July 22, 2019, was no exception. Under the guidance of Fr. Rubin SDB, Director, a group of eager trainees accompanied by trainers Ms. Lesilen Jose and Ms. Anitta Peter embarked on a journey to delve into the intricacies of the retail industry.
Decathlon, a renowned French sporting goods retailer, opened its doors to enlighten the attendees about its expansive journey since its inception in 1976. Mr. Shijo Skaria, Project Leader at Decathlon, led the discourse, providing insights into the global footprint of the company, spanning 38 countries with over 1100 stores. The trainees were captivated by the vast array of sporting equipment and the organizational structure that facilitates its distribution.
The session wasn't merely a lecture but an interactive exchange of knowledge. From marketing strategies to customer relationship management, from sales tactics to product handling, the trainees were exposed to a comprehensive understanding of the retail landscape. The real-world experiences shared by Decathlon staff members, Mr. Raju and Mr. Ragu, added a personal touch to the learning experience, emphasizing the importance of customer satisfaction and service excellence.
Divided into teams, the trainees explored different sections of the store, marveling at the infrastructure and amenities provided for customers. It was a moment of realization for them, as they witnessed firsthand the fusion of innovation and dedication that drives the retail industry forward.
The field trip not only broadened their understanding of retail management but also ignited a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm among the trainees. As they bid farewell to Decathlon, armed with newfound knowledge and inspiration, they were left with a deeper appreciation for the dynamics of the retail world and the limitless possibilities it holds.
