Besides skills in trade, better communication skills and personality can help one get a good job. Don Bosco Tech Society has been at the forefront of training its students not just get employed but become a good human being. On August 23, 2019, Hassan center had organized a Guest Lecture for the Retail Sales trainees which were given by Mr. Prasanth (Professor of English, Government First Grade College, Hassan).
Mr. Ranjan (Trainer, Retail Marketing) and Ms. Shailaja (Trainer, CE & ITES) introduced the speaker and topic of the lecture to the trainees. There were 22 trainees present for this lecture. Fr Dinesh Dominic (Principal, Don Bosco ITI College, Hassan) Mr. Jayant Patil, Mrs. Navya, and Mrs. Geetha (Lectures, Don Bosco ITI College, Hassan) were also presented in the session. 
Mr. Prasanth began the session by citing its importance of being a good leader and conducted various activities in groups to explain the same effectively. “An effective communication skill is an important skill that enables one to connect with the other,” said Mr. Prasanth. He helped them understand the vitality of communication skills in the professional world. He suggested ways to enhance self-confidence and also develop communication skills. Some of the ways he suggested are meditation and participating in different activities. Interestingly the resource person helped the trainees developing a creative mindset, speaking fluent English, and focusing on the future.
Mr. Prasanth mentioned some of the benefits of good communication skills. These are ‘better understand a person or a situation’, ‘building trust’, and ‘respect’ with the people around us and also to create environments where creative ideas, problem-solving, affection, and caring can exist. During the interaction, he focused on the various ways communication skills could be effective.
He said, “Effective Communication, takes you on pathways of self-realization.” He added, “You’ll realize, excellent communication will give you the ability to express who you are and bring out the best, in everything you do. While you take-up some of the professional courses, such as Business Writing, Graphic Design, and Successful Presentation, you’ll hone your written, visual, and verbal business presentation skills. You'll learn to write well with clear business documents that showcase your ideas; to design elegant presentation slides, reports, documents, and other visual products; and to present and speak with confidence and power.”
He also emphasized on the fact that without proper use of nonverbal communication, verbal communication becomes ineffective. Threw light on the diminutives of body language, eye contact, and impact of personality. It also helped the trainees to build a positive attitude and motivated them to achieve high success in life.
Afterward, there was an interactive session, where he invited questions and responded to them in a lively and humorous manner. The session ended with a vote of thanks that was given by Mr. Ranjan.
