Don Bosco Tech's Sambalpur Centre recently hosted an enlightening guest lecture session for Batch - 01 trainees of the Skills to Succeed – 2024-25 program, focusing on the Mushroom Grower job role. Held on July 23, 2024, the event centered on the captivating topic "Types of Mushrooms."
Mr. Dillip Kumar Behera, the domain trainer, warmly welcomed everyone and introduced the guest lecturer, Mr. Faran Karim, the esteemed owner of Faran Mushroom Farm in Sambalpur.
The lecture aimed to shed light on the dynamic world of mushroom cultivation and how seasonal changes impact different mushroom varieties. Mr. Faran began by emphasizing the crucial link between environmental factors and mushroom growth. He explored various mushroom types, including oyster, paddy straw, and white button mushrooms, in relation to their preferred climatic conditions. This deep dive provided trainees with invaluable insights into the specific needs of each mushroom type, equipping them to optimize production throughout the year.
The session delved into the intricacies of seasonal variations, focusing on temperature, humidity, and light conditions. For example, the cultivation of cold-loving mushrooms like oyster and paddy straw during winter was discussed, while white button mushrooms were highlighted as ideal for the spring season. Attendees were encouraged to synchronize their cultivation practices with the natural cycles of each season to enhance both yield and quality.
Practical tips and techniques for creating controlled environments, such as temperature-controlled growing rooms and specialized cultivation methods, were also shared. The interactive segment of the session saw trainees displaying keen interest, actively participating, and posing numerous questions about pursuing a career in mushroom cultivation. Their enthusiasm and energy throughout the session were remarkable.
Mr. Faran concluded the session by addressing all queries raised by the trainees, emphasizing the profitability of mushroom farming as a highly lucrative agri-business that requires low investment and space. The event wrapped up with heartfelt thanks from Mr. Sarada Prasad Nanda, who expressed deep appreciation for Mr. Faran's time and effort in educating the trainees.
