A guest lecture for the Assistant Electrician trainee was conducted at Don Bosco Tech Society (Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh) on February 11, 2020. Mr. Mohinder Sharma (JESS, Junior Engineer Sub-Station, Shiva Electrical Workshop) was invited to brief the trainees on the foundational of electrical.

Mr. Chatter Singh (Trainer, Asst. Electrician) welcomed and introduced the guest to the trainees. He informed the trainees about the objective of the guest lecture which was aimed at briefing them on the basics of electrical. Mr. Sharma, while discussing the topic explained the ‘fluorescent tube connection’ with a diagram and tube wiring diagram, theory, and symbols used for the electrical field.

He also gave an insight into the status of fluorescent tube light production and its need. Further he explained the advantages of using a fluorescent tube in the household; energy saver as compared to incandescent lamps, long lifespan, better light diffusions and distribution, and less heat emission. He also brought out the disadvantages related to fluorescent tubes; expensive than incandescent lamps because they are more complicated to manufacture, health and environmentally hazardous, and problems with dimming in low voltage, etc. With diagram he explained the theory of fluorescent tube and also discussed some electrical symbols; ampere-meter, voltmeter, millimeter, bell, buzzer, choke, star, and delta.

The trainees found the session filled with useful information. It was much liked for this is going to be the base that will determine the shape of their career.

The guest lecture ended with a vote of thanks to the guest for spending his valuable time in sharing his most experienced knowledge with the trainees on a much-needed topic.
