On July 3, 2024, Mr. Prem Sagar Ekka, a former coordinator of the Emergency Appeal project under Caritas India, delivered an enlightening lecture on Covid-19, HIV/AIDS, and health and hygiene to the Automotive Telecaller B2 group in Raha, Nagaon, Assam. A resident of Japrajan in Mohkhuti, Karbi Anglong, Assam, Mr. Ekka brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the session.

Mr. Ekka's engaging approach began with personal introductions, creating an interactive and welcoming atmosphere. He emphasized that true health is a combination of physical and mental well-being and that maintaining this balance involves cultivating habits that promote a clean environment and excellent health.

Central to his lecture was the theme of personal safety and precaution as crucial defenses against disease. He stressed the importance of both personal and environmental cleanliness in preventing illness. Mr. Ekka shared practical and relatable tips for preventing HIV/AIDS and Covid-19, such as the avoidance of shared needles and syringes, the use of protection during sexual activities, and maintaining cleanliness in daily routines.

Moreover, he provided insights into daily habits that significantly contribute to overall health, such as washing hands before meals, maintaining regular toilet habits, and drinking clean, filtered water to prevent diseases like typhoid. He underscored the importance of environmental hygiene in halting the spread of viruses, encouraging practices like frequent house cleaning with disinfectants and staying updated with vaccinations.

The lecture's interactive segment allowed trainees to ask pertinent questions, deepening their understanding of various health issues. When asked about the common problem of white discharge in women, Mr. Ekka recommended practical measures such as increased water intake, consuming green vegetables, and consulting a doctor when necessary. On the topic of HIV/AIDS transmission, he explained the pathways through which the virus spreads, emphasizing the importance of safe practices and awareness.

Mr. Ekka's guidance on managing common illnesses like colds, flu, and stomach bugs included practical advice such as getting adequate rest, staying hydrated, and avoiding close contact with infected individuals.
