A virtual session on World AIDS Day was dedicated to raising awareness at Don Bosco Tech Society Gurdaspur on Dec 1, 2020. In this program Centre Coordinator Mr. Ramandeep Singh, Trainers Mr. Jatinder Singh, and Mr. Harmanpreet Singh Bedi were present in the session. Mr. Ramandeep Singh starts the virtual session with his useful speech on World AIDS Day. His speech includes various ways in which youth can protect society through awareness and prevention. The positive sign was the trainee’s concentration and eagerness towards the problem caused by AIDS by the demonstrating placards in regards to staying safe from this deadly disease.
Mr. Harmanpreet Singh explains the AIDS Pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. As of a 2017 report by WHO (world health organization), AIDS has killed between 28.9 million people, and an estimated 36.7 million people are living with HIV.
Mr. Jatinder Singh added that AIDS day was first visualized by Thomas Netter and James W Bunn in August 1987. Thomas Netter and James W Bunn both are the public information officer for the AIDS global program at the WHO (world health organization) in Geneva, Switzerland. They had shared their ideas about AIDS day with Doctor Jonathan Mann.
The session ended with an interactive session which lasted for almost 40 min, where the trainees shared and cleared their doubts with the staff.
