On 12th June 2025, Yadgir witnessed a remarkable demonstration of community solidarity as the Don Bosco Centre for Social Action (DBCSA), in partnership with DB Tech Yadgir, marked the World Day Against Child Labour with an inspiring rally and awareness program. The event aimed to shine a spotlight on children's rights and ignite public consciousness about the urgent need to eliminate child labour.
The day commenced with a vibrant awareness rally, starting at the Tahsildar Office and culminating at the Government Degree College. DB Tech trainees, alongside local students, educators, and community members, marched together, carrying placards and chanting slogans that resonated with a powerful call for protecting childhood. Their spirited participation served not only as a visual testament but also as a clarion call advocating for education, dignity, and the right of every child to a carefree childhood.
Over 400 participants came together for this event, including DB Tech trainees and trainers, school students and teachers, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, and concerned community members. The impressive turnout highlighted the increasing awareness in Yadgir and the shared determination to eradicate child labour.
The program also featured addresses by distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Mariyappa, Senior Civil Judge & Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority; Fr. Francis Shabu, Director of DBCSA; Shri Hari Deshpande, Labour Officer; Shri Ravindra, Assistant Director of the Department of Agriculture; Shri Hiranagouda, Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Development; and Shri Nirmal Surpurkar, District Child Protection Officer. They lauded the efforts of DBCSA and DB Tech in equipping youth with skills, promoting education, and spreading awareness about child rights, emphasizing the transformative power of community-driven initiatives.
The event was not just a rally but an enlightening experience for all participants, blending advocacy with education. Attendees learned about the subtle ways child labour affects communities, the critical role of skill development in breaking cycles of exploitation, and the importance of a concerted societal effort to nurture children’s potential.
The rally concluded with a resounding message that resonated throughout Yadgir:
“Every child deserves a life of learning, laughter, and liberty, free from the burden of labour.”
This observance reinforced that safeguarding childhood is not just the responsibility of a few but a shared mission for families, institutions, and society at large. The collaboration of civil society, government agencies, and local communities demonstrated that when efforts converge, the fight against child labour can gain both momentum and meaning.
