Mobilizing rural youth for vocational training at Don Bosco Tech Punalur in April-May 2022 presented several challenges. Conservative attitudes, the anticipation of 12th-grade results, and students pursuing other courses or jobs made enrollment difficult. Compelling students to join to fill the batch risked their attendance and potential dropout, affecting future targets. Additionally, issues like incomplete color documents added to the complexity.
To address these challenges, we employed a variety of innovative strategies. Utilizing social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, along with distributing notices in colleges and visiting parallel colleges, helped reach a wider audience. Church announcements, newspaper ads, and engaging with Parish Youth movements were also effective. Organizing meetings with SHGs, MCUs, Kaval, and SPC groups enhanced communication and progress updates, particularly in remote areas such as Kanjaramala, Mathra, Maniyar, and others.
This concerted effort resulted in the successful enrollment of 26 students for the training program, which commenced on 1st June 2022. We recognize the critical role of trainers and students in making such initiatives successful. Moving forward, given the rising demand in the E-Commerce sector, we emphasize the importance of non-technical skills alongside technical training to prepare our trainees effectively.
At Don Bosco Tech, we firmly believe in the transformative power of individuals to mobilize communities and drive positive change. Even in challenging circumstances, believing in oneself, sharing a compelling vision, and demonstrating passion can inspire others to join and contribute to meaningful progress.
