On 30th July 2025, the E-Commerce Executive students of Don Bosco Tech, Karunapuram undertook an enriching field visit to the John Deere facility, gaining first-hand exposure to the dynamic world of manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, sales, and retail operations. The visit was designed to move learning beyond the classroom and immerse students in real-time industrial practices that define global supply chain and e-commerce ecosystems.

The primary objective of the visit was to help students understand how theoretical concepts of supply chain management, warehouse operations, manufacturing workflows, and sales strategies are applied in a large-scale industrial environment. Guided by John Deere’s experienced logistics and sales professionals, students were taken through the warehouse, manufacturing unit, sales department, and retail outlet, each offering unique insights into the company’s integrated operations.

At the warehouse, students observed how inventory is efficiently received, stored, tracked, and dispatched using advanced warehouse management systems. The use of automation, forklifts, barcode scanning, and systematic documentation highlighted the importance of accuracy, safety, and organization in modern warehousing. This session gave students a clear understanding of how technology-driven logistics supports seamless e-commerce fulfillment.

The manufacturing unit proved to be one of the most fascinating segments of the visit. Students witnessed the assembly line production of tractors and agricultural machinery, gaining insights into quality control measures, lean manufacturing principles, and just-in-time practices. Seeing precision engineering and workflow coordination in action helped students appreciate how operational efficiency directly impacts cost, quality, and customer satisfaction.

During the interaction with the sales department, students learned about customer engagement strategies, product promotion techniques, and order management systems. The team explained how John Deere balances B2B and B2C sales models while aligning them with digital platforms and physical outlets. This session clearly demonstrated how e-commerce acts as a bridge between manufacturing strength and market reach.

Overall, the field visit was an eye-opening and inspiring experience that connected academic knowledge with real-world industry practices. It offered students a holistic perspective on how e-commerce integrates with manufacturing, logistics, and sales in a global organization. Don Bosco Tech, Karunapuram extends its sincere gratitude to the John Deere team for their warm hospitality and for sharing valuable insights that will undoubtedly shape the professional outlook of the students.
