Market Scan Report

Date: 14th August 2026

Location: Punalur

As part of the academic and practical learning activities, the Don Bosco Tech Society, Punalur, organized a Market Scan on 14th August, 2026 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. All the students of the E-Commerce Executive and Software Programmer batches participated in the activity.  The main objective of the activity was to provide students with an opportunity to step outside the classroom and gain practical knowledge about the business environment, employment opportunities, and the functioning of different shops and commercial establishments. It was planned as an experiential learning activity through which students could interact directly with people working in the field and understand the realities of the employment market.

For the market scan, the students were divided into six groups, with eight members in each group. Each group was assigned a specific route to travel and was given the responsibility of visiting shops and establishments located along that particular route. The students proceeded to their respective areas and visited a few shops as part of the activity. The division into groups made the activity organized and systematic while also encouraging students to work together as a team.

During their visits, the students interacted with shop owners and HR Managers. They introduced themselves and made enquiries about various aspects of employment and business operations. One of the major areas of enquiry was the availability of job vacancies. They also gathered information about salary packages, job responsibilities, working conditions, working hours, qualifications required, and other employment-related matters. Through these conversations, the students were able to understand the different types of job opportunities available in the market and the skills and qualities expected by employers.

The students also gained an understanding of the day-to-day functioning of shops and the responsibilities of employees. Speaking directly with experienced staff members gave them a clearer picture of the challenges and opportunities associated with different jobs. The activity helped them connect the knowledge they had gained through their academic studies with practical situations in the real world. It also encouraged them to ask questions, communicate confidently, listen carefully and collect relevant information.

Apart from its academic value, the market scan was also a joyful and memorable experience for the students. Travelling together in groups and exploring different routes created a sense of excitement and enthusiasm among them. The students enjoyed spending time with their classmates while carrying out an educational activity. Working together also strengthened their friendship, cooperation, team spirit, and interpersonal bonding. They learned how to coordinate with one another, share responsibilities, and support their group members while cooperating the assigned task.

The activity provided students with valuable exposure to the local market and helped them become more aware of the employment opportunities around them. It also improved their communication skills, confidence, observation skills, and ability to interact with people from different backgrounds. Such activities are important because they prepare students to face real-life situations and understand the expectations of the professional world.

By 1.30 pm, all the groups had completed their assigned routes and enquiries and returned to the institute. The Market Scan was successfully completed and proved to be both an educational and enjoyable experience. Overall, the activity provided students with practical knowledge, valuable employment-related information, and an opportunity to strengthen their relationships with their peers. It was a fruitful learning experience that combined education, teamwork, interaction and enjoyment.
