In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which prevented the opening of our institute, we successfully organized an online virtual guest lecture for Batch 3 and Batch 4 on October 3, 2020. The guest of honor was Mr. Chayan Bhowmick, who was introduced to the students by Mr. Washim Hassan Mallick.

Mr. Bhowmick, a seasoned professional with eight years of experience in the hotel industry, currently works with Princess Cruise, specifically on the Island Princess South America Cruising. His expertise lies in Food & Beverage service, and he has garnered significant experience and goodwill in his field.

The session, held on Google Meet, commenced at 11:00 AM. Prior to the event, we shared the Google Meet link with both our students and Mr. Bhowmick. The students warmly welcomed him, setting the tone for an engaging and informative two-hour session.

Mr. Bhowmick expressed his delight at seeing so many enthusiastic young faces. He began with an overview of the course and elaborated on how Don Bosco would help them achieve their dreams. The session included an interactive segment where students introduced themselves and discussed their career goals.

The guest speaker provided invaluable insights into the corporate perspective, emphasizing how students can overcome their fears and become future leaders. He engaged with the students in English, Hindi, and Bengali, making the session accessible and inclusive.

Mr. Bhowmick highlighted the benefits of long-term employment in the same hotel or restaurant, the importance of punctuality, and the responsibilities they would assume in the hotel industry. He stressed the significance of learning English for guest interactions, the methods of delivering excellent guest service, and ways to enhance their skills. Additionally, he discussed the process for departmental transfers and promotions, and the essential qualities of a successful hotelier.

The students were captivated by Mr. Bhowmick’s wealth of knowledge about the hotel industry, particularly the intricacies of Housekeeping and Food and Beverage Steward departments. They gained a clear understanding of how these departments function together.

Throughout the session, students posed numerous questions, which Mr. Bhowmick answered generously and with a smile. The session concluded with the students expressing their gratitude for his time and insights. The event was a resounding success, leaving the students inspired and better informed about their future careers.
