Don Bosco Tech – Sabbavaram organized a guest lecture on general topic for Electrical and Hospitality domain trainees on November 12, 2019. Sr. Susan working as a General Nurse from Don Bosco Nava Jeevan Bala Bhavan, Sabbavaram, was the resource person for this event. Sr. Susan was invited to the center to give her valuable knowledge about heath and share her experiences to the trainees who would be venturing out in the competitive world to earn the livelihood in a month or two. The lecture was divided into two parts, first part was about the conversation between Guest and Female trainees. Sr. Susan spoke only with the female trainees about some basic health and hygiene issues pertaining to them. In the second part she addressed both boys and girls about general hygiene and health issues.

Sr. Susan addressed the trainees with a great pleasure. The objective of this guest lecture about Women Health and Hygiene. This lecture was organized not just to promote Hygiene under sanitation and hygiene amongst women but also to educate them about the same, since a large population of women die every year in India due to menstrual issues.

Countering to this major problem of India we started making handmade Sanitary Napkins from cotton cloth and have been distributing free of cost in urban slums as well as villages. Workshops are held at various government schools and colleges with young girls to make the aware about the same by lady doctors and our volunteers. She also shared her experience of teaching women & girls how to make their own sanitary napkin which has also become a mode of earning for few women who make these napkins in bulk and sell it at very cheap prices in their surrounding households.

After the first part of session, Sr. Susan addressed both boys and girls about general health and hygiene. Mainly concentrated on home remedies. How to take care of by oneself if fallen sick, given some natural ayurvedic tips to first aid for several general health cases. She explained about the ancient times, how our ancestors used to make medicines for the sickness with house hold things. This lecture helped the trainees to take care of themselves to be healthy.

The guest lecturer provoked a keen interest among the students. Trainees said that, "We were benefited to a large extent. We find this lecture very useful to protect ourselves and take care of ourselves during emergency.”

The guest lecture ended with a vote of thanks proposed by a P. Rani CE to the guest lecturer for sparing her valuable time and sharing her experience and knowledge with the trainees. The trainees appreciated the guest and thanked the organizers for arranging such kind of lecture where they benefited to the maximum.
