Awareness on ‘HIV/AIDS and Harmful Effects of Smoking’

Don Bosco Tech (Sabbavaram) organized the guest lecture for all the students on June 12, 2019. Mr. Prabhakar Reddy (Sub Inspector of Police, Sabbavaram) was invited to be the respected resource person for the guest lecture. He was welcomed by the trainees and the staff of Don Bosco Tech.
Mr. Prabhakar started the session by telling the trainees about HIV/AIDS. He said, “AIDS is the most advanced stage of HIV infection. Once HIV infection develops into AIDS, infections and cancer pose a greater risk.” He told that AIDS spread through sharing syringe from infected person, infected mother to unborn child, unprotected sexual encounter, through saliva etc. He cleared all the social taboos related to HIV and AIDS and created a safe and clean approach towards the virus and the victim. He also spoke briefly about Hepatitis B and how an individual can stop from getting infected and spreading the viral infection. Enlightening the trainees, he added that Hepatitis B is a viral Infection that attacks the liver and can cause both acute and chronic disease. It is transmitted through blood contact or other body fluids of an infected person.
Mr. Prabhakar gave another Lecture on “Awareness on Harmful Effects of Smoking & Tobacco”. He spoke about the increasing risk of different types of cancers associated with smoking. He stated that nearly 90,000 people die from tobacco-related cases. He explained different Forms of tobacco intake.

• Bidi – most commonly used form in India
• Cigar
• Hookah- Hubble bubble or Sheesha
• Tobacco chewing
• Kreteks
• Snuff – Moist & Dry
• E-cigarette – recent intruder in the list
Trainees were very interested and asked several questions that gave them a clear understanding of the virus and tobacco. The guest asked the trainees to be safe and take all kind of precautions in order to keep themselves away from infection and health issues. Finally, the lecture came to an end with a vote of thanks by Ms. P. Rani (CE & ITeS Trainer).
