Power Station: A site to visit to learn
05 Jan 2020
It was February 5, 2020, when the Assistant Electrician batch of Don Bosco Tech Society (Sabbavaram) set out the second time for an exposure trip to ‘Power Station’, located in the far off village of Erravanipalem, Sabbavaram. These trainees had an ample opportunity to learn about house wiring. Besides knowledge in electrical these trainees were given basic ideas on plumbing too.
Mr. Chennakesavulu (Trainer, Electrical) was keener in trainees’ practical learnings. During the visit, they were briefed on the various divisions of the work, and tools were demonstrated mentioning its utilities too. He explained to the trainees about house wiring with a special demonstration of an Optical Distribution Frame (ODF). He was an extra conscience to explain the precautions they need to take before starting the electrical work. At the end of the fruitful tour to the power station, there was questions and answers session.
It was worth mastering the techniques and measures they need to take while working on house wiring. In addition to that, they also learned the units of measurements during wiring are in ‘foot’ and ‘inch’. It was also made clear to them that this type of work is so tough risky, risk of getting an electric shock.
There was a plumber, they observed, was busy installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in commercial and industrial buildings. They were told that a plumber selects and inserts precut pieces of copper tubing and fittings in holes.
It was boon to the trainees who learned about house wiring and plumbing. This is a rare combination one can ever experience in life. The trainees were overwhelmed with the site visit. It was concluded with a moment of group photography of trainees along with their trainers and the staff of the power station.
