To enhance the communication skills, considered to be a strong weapon to face people, Don Bosco Tech Society (Sabbavaram) conducted a session on "Effective Communication Skills" dated February 12, 2020. The speaker was Sr. Annakutty (In-charge, Navajeevan Bala Bhavan). Through this session, the trainees learned about the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication.

Sr. Annakutty said, “In this era, adequate communication skill is need of the hour to be successful.” Upon hearing this, everyone’s undeterred attention was on her. She added, “Without the proper use of verbal and non-verbal communication one cannot be effective.” Sister explained to them with concrete examples of verbal and non-verbal communication stating; body language and eye contact.

The session itself was a clear cut example of perfect two-way-communication which called for the participant’s active participation and feedback. Through the group activities, they were helped develop a good sitting habit, standing, and walking. The lecture was an enlightening experience as it helped to improve their eye contact while talking. And the ability to listen is vital to good communication. This skill was helped develop through a game, passing the verbal message whispered in the ear of the first person to the last without distorting it.

The session was very effective indeed as the trainees learned about listening skills, verbal and non-verbal communication. They thanked the resource person for a lively and practical session.
