In a bid to expand trainees’ horizons in the Hospitality Sector, Don Bosco Tech Society (Sabbavaram) organized a tour to Hotel Mantris on February 14, 2020, which is located in the heart of the corporate hub of Visakhapatnam. The staff members, of varied capacity, helped them visualize the Hospitality Sector better through Hotel Mantris.

Trainees were briefed about the hotel before the visit, that roused their curiosity. This was seen from at times they were found to be discussing among themselves about the forthcoming trip. As per the meticulous planning, they arrived at the spot before time. The concerned person was Ms. Anila (HR) who warmly welcomed them saying “This new hotel welcomes guests with a wealth of world-class amenities and designed rooms gorgeously. This hotel running a single restaurant, one banquet hall, and the hotel has three types of rooms; standard room, executive room, deluxe room.”

Ms. Anila helped us understand the features of the hotel and then introduced one of their staff Mr. Prem Kumar (Manager) who she asked to assist the trainees further. He explained to them about the restaurant and the rest of the departments; Food and Beverage Service, Food and Beverage Production. He did help us visit all the departments. In Food and Beverage Service department trainees were shown different food outlets including the main restaurant. How to treat the guests and to take an order were also explained by Mr. Kumar. In the food production department, the Production Manager gave them adequate information about the department and showed them the kitchen filled with the latest sophisticated amenities. The students were surprised to know the safety and security measures taken, without compromise, by the hotel including firefighting extinguishers and first aid exactly what they had studied from their books.

Mr. Jadheeshwar Rao (Manager, F&B) briefed them about the importance of ‘Time Management and Grooming’ as it is vital in the hospitality sector. He was quite impressed by the smartness of the trainees and poured out his heartfelt desire and said, "I am interested to provide placements for the young people like you.” It was like a piece of music in the ears of the aspirants who are preparing to join the labor force soon. Finally, he waved his hand in appreciation for which Don Bosco Tech is committed to.

Mr. Ravi (HR), another head of the department showed them the rooms consisting of; the board room, types of rooms; deluxe and luxury, etc. While showing them the rooms he also mentioned the charges for each. Later Mr. Laxmi Narayana Rao (GM) explained to the trainees about the roles and responsibilities of each department and the terminology used in the hotel industry. 

The staff and the management were impressed to have the trainees. They too behaved well throughout the visit. The management was impressed to learn the Don Bosco Tech Society’s commitment to skilling and empowering the underprivileged youth. 

The visit ended by thanking all those who helped to understand the organization. The trainees felt it worth visiting.
