It was really a very motivating experience for the students of ITC East 2019-20, Batch 7 & 8 as we had Miss Shilpi and Mr. Adarsh Choudhury, the HR’s from Vivanta Hotel on the 10th December, 2019 to share their profound knowledge on selection and recruitment policies(interviews) in respect to the hotel industry. A total number of 54 candidates attended the guest lecture and they had a wonderful session.

Mr. Adarsh Choudhary started the session by giving the students a brief description about the HR department and the hotel industry. He mentioned that today hospitality sector is growing very fast as the hospitality management courses in India fulfills the demands for well trained and highly skilled students in that sector. One of the major factors for the growth in this industry is to have the competency in communication. It’s necessary for the employees to communicate effectively with the guests in crucial circumstances like dealing with complaints, co-coordinating between departments, attending to guests at the front desk and helping in documentation like menus, bills, reports and other hotel procedures. Such elements creates a chance to improve their communication skills. He even emphasized to encourage the hotel staffs to communicate with each other in English. He even shared few tips like the best way of successful communication is to observe your guest’s own communication style and to respond to them accordingly as it is important how you address your guest or deal with complaints. They even did a detailed presentation on one of the most important point which is how to escape from Fire in terms of emergency and how to deal in such situations.

He even mentioned that this Hospitality Management program run by Don Bosco creates a platform for the students to participate in various professional and extracurricular activities and provides many opportunities for work experience and job placement in the work field. Those who graduate in this base program will find excellent employment opportunities in their profession. Pursuing career in Hotel industry will help to build experience which will later on act as an advantage and will help to create a competitive advantage and aids in more rapid growth. Mr. Adarsh Choudhury stated that it is indeed a glamorous profession which provides on a lot of exposure and has a bright future. With the growth of hotel industry being augmented by foreign and domestic tourism and business travel, there is an impressive increase in the demand for well trained quality personnel. The mission of the Hospitality Management program is to meet the needs of the industry and community by preparing individuals to become successful professionals who are capable of assuming leadership roles in a dynamic, multi-cultural, domestic, and international job market. Thus a great deal of knowledge was imparted to the students of Nitika Don Bosco. The valuable guest lecture ended with vote a of thanks given by one the trainees an gifts were offered to the HR’s as a token of love and appreciation.
