On June 5, 2025, Don Bosco Tech-Monsada actively joined the global celebration of World Environment Day, a United Nations-led initiative that encourages awareness and action toward safeguarding our planet. This year, the theme—“Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”—highlighted the critical need to restore degraded land, combat desertification, and build resilience against drought.
The day commenced with a vibrant plantation drive across the campus, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a shared mission to enhance green cover. With every sapling planted, participants experienced firsthand the transformative power of trees—not just as oxygen providers, but as essential allies in mitigating climate change and sustaining biodiversity. The initiative served as a living demonstration of how local actions contribute to global solutions.
Following the plantation drive, the programme transitioned to the DB Tech Hallroom for an engaging seminar. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and commitment toward environmental responsibility. A welcome address by the Centre Head set the stage, followed by an insightful video presentation that contextualized the 2025 theme, illustrating the intricate links between land degradation, food security, and climate resilience.
Guest speakers, including representatives from local environmental organizations and community leaders, shared eye-opening insights. They spoke not only about the pressing challenges of desertification and land degradation but also about innovative strategies for restoration, such as sustainable agriculture, soil conservation, and community-led greening initiatives. Their perspectives inspired the audience to recognize the power of individual and collective action in driving meaningful change.
Students brought energy and creativity to the event through interactive activities that combined learning with awareness. Debates and quiz competitions tested their knowledge on pressing environmental issues, while a street play on water conservation and waste management brought critical messages to life in an engaging and memorable way. These activities underscored the students’ understanding that even small, everyday actions can have a ripple effect in protecting the planet.
The day concluded with a moving pledge-taking ceremony. Attendees committed to practical steps—reducing plastic use, conserving water, planting trees, and promoting environmental awareness within their communities. This symbolic gesture reinforced the idea that sustainability is not a one-time effort, but a lifestyle choice that requires dedication and persistence.
World Environment Day 2025 at Don Bosco Tech-Monsada was more than a celebration; it was an educational and motivational journey. It reminded everyone present that the health of our planet is a shared responsibility and that through informed action, creativity, and collective effort, we can nurture a greener, more resilient world.
