To foster experiential learning and sharpen practical beverage preparation skills, a vibrant Mocktail Competition was held on 14 January 2026 at DB Tech Monsada as part of the Guest Service Associate (Food and Beverage) training programme. The event transformed the training space into a simulated professional service environment, allowing trainees to step beyond theory and experience the creativity, discipline, and precision demanded by the hospitality industry.
The primary aim of the competition was to nurture creativity, teamwork, time management, and professional presentation while introducing students to industry-aligned mocktail preparation standards. The atmosphere was energetic yet disciplined, with enthusiastic participation from multiple student groups who approached the challenge with confidence and commitment.
Participants were guided to follow strict hygiene practices, use appropriate glassware, maintain clean and organised workstations, and present their beverages with finesse. Each team also explained the ingredients, preparation techniques, and inspiration behind their mocktails, helping them develop communication skills and confidence in customer interaction—an essential attribute in food and beverage service.
Among the many impressive entries, Tiya Biswas and her group presented the visually striking Blue Lagoon Mocktail, which captured attention with its vibrant colour, refreshing flavour, and elegant garnish. Sudipta Roy and group, along with Piyali Biswas and group, prepared Orange Mojito, skillfully blending citrus notes with mint and soda to deliver refreshing and well-balanced beverages.
Classic mocktail preparation was showcased by Yunus Mondal and group and Srabani Podder and group through their Virgin Mojito. Both teams demonstrated excellent control over ingredient proportions and hygiene standards, resulting in light and refreshing drinks. Mango Mojito, presented by Sandipan Das and group and Ayan Biswas and group, brought a tropical flair to the competition and was appreciated for its aroma, sweetness balance, and appealing presentation.
Adding a creative twist to the event, Sourav Sarkar introduced a Rock Mojito, which stood out for its innovative concept and confident execution. Avijit Bala and his group further elevated the competition by presenting two original creations—Sangri Spirit and Passion Fruit Mojito. These beverages were particularly admired for their originality, vibrant presentation, and imaginative garnishing.
The participants were evaluated on taste, creativity, presentation, hygiene, teamwork, and overall professionalism. Judges offered constructive feedback, enabling trainees to better understand industry expectations and areas for improvement. Beyond technical skills, the competition played a vital role in enhancing students’ confidence, communication abilities, and readiness for real-world hospitality environments.
