Exposer Visit for Guest Service Associate
12 Jan 2026
The industrial visit to ITC Fortune Park Panchwati, Howrah, conducted on 12 January 2026, was organized by Don Bosco Tech Society to offer Guest Service Associate (GSA) students an immersive learning experience within a professional hospitality environment. The visit was thoughtfully designed to expose students to real-world hotel operations and help them connect classroom learning with industry practices, making the experience both educational and career-oriented.
The primary objective of the visit was to familiarize students with the functioning of a mid-scale hotel and the practical realities of guest service operations. Students observed firsthand how guest interactions are managed at various stages of the guest journey, from reservations and check-in to handling special requests and check-out procedures. These observations provided valuable insight into service standards, operational efficiency, and the importance of effective communication in ensuring guest satisfaction.
Another key objective was to help students understand the interdependence of various hotel departments relevant to the Guest Service Associate role. By observing the Front Office, Guest Services, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverage departments, students gained clarity on how coordinated teamwork across departments contributes to seamless hotel operations and a positive guest experience.
The visit also emphasized professional interaction and industry exposure. Students engaged in meaningful discussions with experienced hospitality professionals, learning about workplace expectations, service etiquette, communication skills, and the personal qualities required to succeed in guest-facing roles such as front office operations, concierge services, and guest relations.
The day began with a warm welcome and orientation session led by the hotel’s HR representative. Students were introduced to the ITC Fortune brand, its service philosophy, and the values that guide guest-centric operations. This session set the tone for the visit by highlighting professionalism, attention to detail, and consistency in service delivery.
During the Front Office Department visit, students interacted with the Front Office Manager and Guest Service Associates, who demonstrated how guests are handled from arrival to departure. Students learned about reservation systems, guest profiling, check-in and check-out processes, complaint handling, communication etiquette, and basic upselling techniques. Special emphasis was placed on the role of the Guest Service Associate as the first point of contact, reinforcing the importance of courtesy, accuracy, and professionalism.
The Guest Service segment included a guided tour of the lobby and guest service areas, where students observed how GSAs coordinate with bell staff and concierge teams to manage luggage assistance, transportation, local information, and personalized guest requests. This session highlighted the importance of teamwork and coordination in delivering efficient and memorable service experiences.
Students were then briefed by the Housekeeping Department, with a focus on public area maintenance and room readiness. The team explained cleanliness standards, room status updates, and coordination with the front office to meet guest preferences. This interaction helped students appreciate the crucial role of behind-the-scenes operations in shaping overall guest satisfaction.
The Food and Beverage overview provided students with exposure to restaurant and banquet operations. They learned how Guest Service Associates support F&B teams by assisting with guest queries, managing seating during events, and coordinating services during banquets and functions.
The visit concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session with the Senior Training Manager. Students gained valuable insights into daily challenges in guest service, essential skills for GSA roles, career growth pathways, and maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction. The interactive discussion left students motivated, informed, and inspired about their future careers in the hospitality industry.
Overall, the industrial visit proved to be an insightful and enriching experience, reinforcing Don Bosco Tech Society’s commitment to skill-based education and industry-relevant training. By bridging theory with practice, the visit empowered students with confidence, clarity, and a deeper understanding of professional hospitality operations.
