Don Bosco Tech (Sambalpur) arranged an exposure visit to Panthanivas Sambalpur (OTDC) for the betterment in the professional ethics of our trainees. The visit was accompanied by Mr. Dillip Kumar Behera (F&B - Trainer) along with all F&B Steward trainees on November 7, 2019, which helped them to dream their growth and progress in the chosen trade. The students were greeted by Mr. Debasis Sahoo (Manager), Mr. Dillip Kumar Behera (Asst. Manager) and Mr. Siba Prasad Panigrahi (Captain) of Panthanivas, Sambalpur.

The trainees understood the functioning of the front office, how to contact clients, including the marketing, sales, and service departments. They observed that in the hotel industry, the front office welcomes guests to the accommodation section: meeting and greeting them, taking and organizing reservations, allocating check-in and out of rooms, how to organize porter service, issuing keys and other security arrangements, passing on messages to customers and settling the accounts. During the exposure visit, Mr. Debasis Sahoo said front desk staff is essentially the ‘face’ of business. From the moment they greet the guests until the final checkout, the person working in this department must be able to handle complaints courteously, resolve guest problems expediently.

Trainees understand the need-based and demand-driven approach how the waiters and waitresses take orders and serve food and beverages to patrons at tables in dining establishment. He said, “Customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems, communicate with customers to resolve complaints or ensure satisfaction.” The trainees learn in a restaurant how staff members ensure that patrons have an enjoyable dining experience by providing quality customer service. Staff members work in the front of the business taking orders, serving food and drinks, and removing dinnerware from the table in a timely manner.

Also, trainees knew more about the housekeeping department, how takes pride in keeping the hotel clean and comfortable, and they came to know the aim of all accommodation establishments is to provide their customers with the clean, attractive, comfortable and welcoming surroundings that offer value for money.

At the end of the visit, students had the opportunity to ask the manager questions about the hotel, the way it operates and the way that it measures its environmental impact. Overall, it was an excellent experience for all and a fun way to discover a place that is only a short ride from the Don Bosco Tech campus. The trainees appreciated the staff member who guided the students with each and every question and detailed answers. It is rightly said that ‘See and Know’ is better than ‘Read and Learn’. Students have got the real feel of hotels working after this visit. They got a chance to transfer their theoretical knowledge to practical implications. This exposure visit will even help students to understand object matter clearly in the future. Also, Mr. Dillip (Trainer) and trainees of Don Bosco Tech would like to extend their gratitude to Panthanivas (OTDC) Sambalpur for permission and support they gave us to make our visit a success with the accomplishment of the objective. Trainees were very happy and were thankful to Don Bosco Tech for organizing the field trip
