Don Bosco Tech, Sambalpur Center arranged a Guest lecturer for Mushroom Grower job role (Batch - 06) of Accenture 2023-24 on December 12, 2023. The designated topic for the above mentioned session was “Cultivation of Oyster Mushroom”. Mr.  Samir Kumar Tandi from Indian Mushroom farm was invited as the guest lecture.

The guest lecture started with welcome address by the domain trainer Mr. Dillip Kumar Behera. He introduced and welcomed Mr. Samir Tandi from Indian Mushroom Farm to deliver the lecture.

Mr. Tandi began by highlighting the suitability of oyster mushrooms for cultivation due to their adaptability to various substrates and relatively short cultivation period. The lecture outlined the key steps to initiate the process, starting with the preparation of a substrate. He emphasized the use of agricultural waste materials such as straw and sawdust, promoting sustainability in mushroom farming.

The process of inoculation, where the mushroom spores are introduced to the substrate, was thoroughly explained.  He demonstrated various methods, including the use of pre-prepared spawn or creating one's own through sterile techniques. The importance of maintaining a clean and sterile environment throughout the cultivation process was underscored to prevent pollution.

The lecture touched upon environmental conditions critical for optimal mushroom growth, including temperature, humidity, and light exposure. Trainees gained practical insights into the challenges and solutions associated with maintaining these conditions.

Additionally, Mr Tandi delved into harvesting techniques and post-harvest care, ensuring participants understood the lifecycle of the oyster mushroom and the importance of proper handling to maximize yield.

In conclusion, the guest lecture provided a concise yet comprehensive guide to cultivating oyster mushrooms. The practical tips and ethical considerations shared by Mr. Tandi inspired trainees to embark on their own mushroom cultivation journey, promoting a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainable agricultural practices.

Mr. Samir summed up the session by answering queries and deliberating on the enormous scope for self-employment leading to a decent livelihood for a mushroom grower. The session ended with a hearty thanks to Mr. Samir Tandi by Mr. Sarat Chandra Dash in appreciation for taking the time out to educate the trainees.
