The second guest lecturer session for Mushroom Grower job role was successfully organized at Don Bosco Tech Sambalpur Center on “Types of mushrooms, their cultivations process and its economic implications in Indian society” on June 29, 2022 for the trainees of batch – 2 of Accenture - 12. Mr. Anand Sahu of Sahu Mushroom farm was invited as the Guest Lecturer. He is the proprietor of Sahu Mushroom Farm.

The guest lecture began with welcome address by the domain trainer Mr. Dillip Kumar Behera. He has introduced and welcomed Mr. Anand Sahu to deliver the lecture.

Mr. Sahu briefed the trainees on different aspect of mushroom growing. He expanded his session by explaining various stages of mushroom cultivation such as Preparation of spawn, Substrate preparation, Spawning of substrate, Incubation, Fruiting and harvesting of different types of mushrooms. He apprised the trainees by giving the advantages of different types of mushroom by explaining the production cost for starting the cultivation as a small farm of mushroom at home. He emphasized the trainees about the importance of self employment and its value addition to a family in terms of livelihood.

Mr. Sahu said from the nutrition point of view mushrooms are equally important and beneficial among meat and vegetables. Mushroom cultivation does not require a lot of land and is a viable and attractive activity for both rural and urban farmers. A large amount of work in mushroom cultivation, such as filling substrates into plastic bags and preparing paddy straw bed or containers, harvesting and marketing are ideally suited for women’s participation. Mr. Sahu was very amazed by the participation and interest shown by the participants in the program.

In the subsequent part of the session there was a FQAs session. Trainees have raised some questions which were addressed by Mr. Sahu. The session ended with a hearty thanks to Mr. Sahu by support domain trainer Mr. Sarada Prasad Nanda in appreciation for taking the time out to educate the trainees.
