Don Bosco Tech Chandigarh recently hosted a guest lecture tailored for students enrolled in the Associate Desktop Publishing (DTP) and E-Commerce Executive programs. Led by Ms. Shailja, a seasoned GDA Trainer, the lecture centered on raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, a topic of significant relevance in today's world.

Ms. Shailja delivered an engaging session on January 3rd, 2024, shedding light on the intricacies of HIV, a retrovirus known for targeting the immune system, particularly CD4 cells crucial for combating infections. She underscored the progression of HIV to AIDS when left untreated, which severely compromises the immune system, rendering individuals susceptible to opportunistic infections and cancers.

The lecture provided comprehensive insights into the primary modes of HIV transmission, dispelling myths and emphasizing facts. Ms. Shailja clarified that HIV cannot be transmitted through everyday activities like hugging or sharing utensils but rather through specific means such as sharing needles or receiving contaminated blood products.

Participants were enlightened about the health ramifications associated with HIV/AIDS, including various opportunistic infections like tuberculosis and pneumonia, along with the onset of cancers such as Kaposi's sarcoma. Ms. Shailja also elaborated on the neurological disorders and wasting syndrome often observed in individuals affected by the virus.

Furthermore, the session explored future directions in HIV/AIDS research, highlighting advancements in treatment methods and ongoing endeavors aimed at awareness promotion and stigma reduction. Ms. Shailja emphasized the necessity of global collaboration and sustainable funding to effectively combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The lecture's interactive nature facilitated robust engagement, with students actively participating in the question-answer segment. Feedback from participants commended the session for its informative content and Ms. Shailja's approachable demeanor, underscoring its value as a pivotal educational experience.
