Housekeeping Industrial visit
24 Mar 2021
Ms.Genesis Najiar (Trainer- Hospitality) of Shillong centre, lead 14 Housekeeping manual cleaning trainees to Poinisuk Hotel, Laitumkhrah, Shillong for an exposure visit. The focal person at the hotel was Mr.Momin (Managing Director)
Learnings during the visit: The visit was scheduled in the morning since the hotel had full occupancy. The trainees were escorted by the Hospitality Trainer and the Housekeeping Supervisor under the direct supervision of the MD. The visit includes areas like the Front Office, Housekeeping (Room division), Housekeeping (Pantry), and the restaurant.
The Housekeeping Supervisor asked the housekeeping staff to demonstrate bed making for the students as per the hotel standard. She asked the trainees to name a few of the guest's rooms and bathroom amenities provided to the guest while setting up the rooms. The trainees answered her questions with appropriate answers. Then she explained that the image of a hotel depends on how the cleanliness of rooms and ambiance is maintained. And for that reason, the housekeeping department is responsible for keeping up with the standards of any hotel. She also states that the housekeeping department is the backbone of a hotel. Apart from grooming, communication, etc, she said that the willpower to work, eye for detail, and learning is of utmost importance for the entry-level staff. After the interaction with the trainees, she wishes the trainees all the best for their future.
It was a great experience for the trainees since it provided them a clear picture of what hotel rooms look like and how they should clean the rooms, the different cleaning agents used in the housekeeping department, and the constituents of the Guest supplies.
The trainer and trainees thanked the Supervisor wholeheartedly and returned to their classroom with great content.
