Sensitization Programme on Safety Measures and Precautions

"Safety is To be Alert, Aware and Cautious of the Surroundings”
A guest lecture was organized on 26th November 2019 by Shillong Centre of Don Bosco Tech Society, Meghalaya with the agenda to Sensitized the trainees with “Safety Measures and Precautions” which specifically aimed for trainees who have to relocate and migrate out of the region for their job placement. The guest speaker for the programme was Shri Rajendra Singh Nahar, Sub Inspector, 2nd OC of Laitumkhrah Police Station, Shillong, Meghalaya. The programme was attended by 40 trainees and 5 trainers from Shillong centre.
The program began with a welcome speech and felicitation session the was delivered by Ms Pyndaplin Lyngdoh Nongkynrih (Hospitality Trainer) she formally introduced the guest of the event Shri Rajendra Singh Nahar to the trainees who attended the programme. The session was taken forwards by an interactive session followed by a session where he familiarized the trainees with various kinds of situations and threats that the trainees need to be aware off in the region and in any place that they would be working especially in Metro Cities. He highlighted with various issues that are very prone to the youth such as consuming of substance like Drugs, Alcohol and Tobaccos especially in parties, clubs and friends’ gatherings, which they need to be alert and careful with the consequences. He also highlighted to avoid travelling or hanging out at late hours, even if they do they should be in Groups with good peer company and to get back to their residing places before 10 pm with access to transportation. Furthermore, he also suggested the trainees to safe and make use of emergence contact numbers such as the local Police, NGO’s, Hospitals and other emergencies services if there are any emergence and harmful situations. He strongly advised the students to stay away from the lifestyle of drinking and partying especially in clubs and discotheques as “Drinking takes way your senses and which makes you unaware of right and wrong and might, therefore, fall into the situation which will make you regret in future.” He also asked the students to be cautious in trusting people especially if they ask to do things which they are not comfortable within the pretext of earning more money or achieving a higher position at work.
The session followed with the topics of Cybercrime where he sensitized the trainees to be careful with the use of social media and sharing of passwords, OTP and other personal details of social media accounts, bank details and personal details he also advise the trainees to have their password secured and change them from time to time, avoid chatting with strangers, sharing personal pictures and information to strangers and to also be careful with people they know and recognize to do the same.
The last session of the programme was an interactive session where the trainees the Guest ( Ms Nahar) responded to the queries of the trainees such as other types of threats, crimes and harmful situation they should be alert off, how to stay careful and avoid such situation, etc where he advice the trainees with the following suggestions:
- Always travel in groups especially during late hours
- Keep transportation ready and reach home by 10 pm-11 pm
- Keep emergency contact handy
- Don’t rush into earning more by sacrificing your dignity and self-respect as “earning money doesn’t always make one happy with life”
- Lastly, the best way to be safe is avoiding friends or an environment which involves using drugs, alcohol and late-night partying.
Therefore, the session was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the trainer (Ms Badondor) where she thank him for sparing some time out of his busy schedule to be present for the programme and to share his thoughts and perspectives on the Safety Measures to be undertaken by the trainees who are travelling and migrating out of the region for placement. And concluded with some light refreshment for all.
