Celebrating World Environment Day-Shillong Centre

World Environment Day was celebrated by the students of Don Bosco Tech Shillong center on 4th June 2022. with the theme “Only One Earth” with the focus on ‘Living sustainability in harmony with Nature”
Miss Rhiedolcy (Placement Coordinator) shared the opening remarks for the program. She explained to the student that the World Environment was established in the year 1972 by United Nations in Stockholm and initiated in 1974. She said that that it is the day on which we need to spread awareness about the environment and the need to preserve it, also we need to spread the news about a green environment and conversation about nature. She continued by saying that in a simple way we conserve the environment today, the future generation will be able to lead a healthier life. She motivated the students that we should not be selfish and use up all the resources for ourselves, instead, we need to make the people aware of the issues we are facing and how we can contribute to saving them.
Mr. Kishore Das (Regional Manager), Sir Wallam Kharbihkhiew (DEO Trainer), and Miss Genesis Najiar (Housekeeping Trainer) were also present on this day
At this event, the students were divided into different groups to draw and make a presentation about their drawings. Two students were interested to write an essay about the world environment day. The students were very enthusiastic about working in groups and sharing ideas as a team. After they completed their group drawing, each group present a meaningful presentation in front of the Centre head Fr. Arcadius Puwein. The drawings were very beautiful and meaningful. In general, the students presented that we have to take care of our mother earth by saving water, electricity, and fuel, planting more trees, not throwing plastic bags around, and also explaining about waste management and most of all making our city a global clean environment.
In conclusion, Fr Arcadius was very impressed with their drawings and presentation. He mentioned that the drawing itself showed its meaning, but presenting it makes it much better. He further reminds everyone that we should start from the classroom and campus by making the whole environment clean. The winner of the drawing completion goes to a group called “UNITY” presented by the trainees viz Rosalin Lyngdoh Mawnai, Christine Kharbuli, Arkini Paslein, Firststarwell Khongyiang, and Camalial Diengdoh.
