On 14th March 2023, trainees from Food & Beverage Service Associate B2 under the Skill Meghalaya project went for an exposure visit to Hotel Poinisuk Shillong. That helps them to comprehend the job responsibilities and demands. They also learned the actual flow of work in different departments. The trainees are well versed in theory. But the industrial visit helps them to understand practical activities better though some students learn more quickly from practical than from theory class.
Ms. Jerine Nongkynrih, the HR manager, spoke about the work culture in big Hotels where they have to place and the challenges they would have to face. She stressed the importance of perseverance; discipline, hard work, and honesty are essential qualities in the hospitality sector that they should imbibe throughout their professional journey.
Ms.Himani Hajong, the housekeeping supervisor, demonstrated how to make a bed and explained the facilities and guest amenities in the room. The trainees visited a restaurant, bar, and banquet hall as part of their visit. The staff encouraged the trainees to endure work pressure. They wish that all the trainees will grow and excel in their careers. They said that the door of their establishment will always be open to DB Tech in case they want to revisit there.
The industrial visit to Poinisuk Hotel Shillong was successful because the trainees learned and interacted to clarify their doubts to the management team. The visit was to learn more about the hospitality sector and its different departments. Further, the trip allowed trainees to see those who had never been to a hotel earlier, to learn and witness for themselves. The trip was a day of learning and gaining knowledge. It was the best opportunity for the trainees to upgrade their knowledge related to the job role training.
