On November 7, 2025, the students of the IT Customer Care Executive course (Batch ID: B3-250383) from Don Bosco Tech, Kollam, participated in a Market Scan activity at Bishop Jerome, Chinnakada, Kollam. The event was designed to provide learners with meaningful exposure to the employment landscape and help them understand current hiring dynamics in retail and customer service industries. By stepping outside the classroom and interacting directly with employers, students gained a clearer perspective on how theoretical learning translates into real-world professional environments.

The day began with an orientation session led by Ms. Shiny S, the course trainer, who introduced the objectives of the activity and offered detailed guidance on approaching employers professionally. She emphasized the importance of effective communication, accuracy in data collection, and maintaining workplace etiquette during field visits. Field Officer Mr. Athul S K coordinated with the trainer to ensure the entire process was well-organized, with appropriate permissions and safety measures in place.

Following the briefing, the participants were divided into five teams, each assigned specific areas within the Bishop Jerome commercial complex. Equipped with a structured questionnaire, the students collected valuable information from local businesses, including company profiles, available positions, salary structures, working hours, preferred skill sets, and employer contact details. These interactions enabled students to engage with a diverse range of retail and service establishments and gain firsthand insights into employer expectations and current workforce requirements.

Employers responded positively, expressing appreciation for the students’ professional demeanor and curiosity. Many business owners shared candid insights on evolving customer service standards, skill demands, and recruitment challenges. Parallelly, Mr. Athul and Ms. Shiny engaged in discussions with store managers to explore future collaborations, internships, and placement opportunities. Several establishments expressed willingness to partner with Don Bosco Tech Kollam in their recruitment processes.

For the students, the activity proved to be a significant stepping stone in professional development. Many shared that the experience boosted their confidence in employer interactions, strengthened their communication and teamwork skills, and helped them better understand workplace realities and job market expectations. The data gathered during the visit will also serve as a valuable resource for upcoming placement drives and employer engagement initiatives at the center.

A total of 26 students actively participated in the Market Scan, contributing wholeheartedly to both fieldwork and subsequent analysis. The event concluded with a group photograph, marking the successful culmination of a productive learning experience.
